| The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science (BLNS) at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) reaffirmed its commitment to community health through an impactful outreach program on November 30, 2024. Faculty members Dr. Pimsiri Bhusiri, Dr. Chavalee Boonto, and Dr. Prapawan Praevanich conducted a health-focused session for 40 students, combining rabies education with activities designed to promote mental wellness and personal development.
Addressing Rabies: A Persistent Challenge in Thailand Rabies remains a public health concern in Thailand, despite significant progress over the years. While human rabies deaths have decreased from hundreds annually in the 1980s to single digits in recent years, sporadic outbreaks still occur. Notably, rabies-infected animals were discovered in Bangkok’s Prawet district in 2024, underscoring the need for continued education and vigilance. BLNS faculty provided critical knowledge about prevention, symptoms, and treatment, equipping students to protect themselves and their communities from this preventable disease. Promoting Mental Health and Personal Growth Beyond rabies education, the faculty led activities to enhance resilience, empathy, and personal development, addressing both physical and emotional well-being. Participants left with practical knowledge and renewed confidence to lead healthier and safer lives. A Tradition of Community Service This initiative exemplifies BLNS’s mission to integrate academic expertise with social responsibility, empowering communities through education to make informed decisions and adopt healthier lifestyles.
