Art is My Therapy Workshop: Promoting Mental Well-being Through Creative Expression

February 3, 2025 — Counseling Psychology candidates at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) organized the ‘Art is My Therapy’ workshop at Room CL0505, 5th Floor, Suvarnabhumi Campus. This workshop provided participants with an immersive opportunity to explore the therapeutic benefits of art, aiming to alleviate stress and anxiety, enhance self-awareness, foster social connections, and support emotional regulation.

The event welcomed a diverse group of Burmese and Chinese participants, who engaged in a series of activities focused on reflection, mindfulness, and artistic exploration.

Workshop Highlights

  • Interactive Icebreaker: Participants paired up to share “3 Facts About a Friend,” promoting communication, connection, and inclusivity with bilingual support from a Chinese co-facilitator.
  • Guided Body Scan Meditation: Introduced mindfulness practices to tune into physical and emotional states, setting a calm and introspective tone.
  • Art Therapy Introduction: Facilitators explained how creative practices foster emotional expression, resilience, self-esteem, and positive relationships.
  • Painting Therapy: Participants explored colors and brushstrokes as a medium for self-exploration, stress relief, and emotional regulation.
  • Abstract Emotion Painting: Encouraged participants to express emotions freely through abstract art, followed by group discussions to deepen self-awareness and empathy.
  • Snowball Exercise: Concluding activity where participants shared positive affirmations, reinforcing self-worth, social connection, and positivity.

The workshop provided a safe and creative space for emotional growth, stress management, and community building, highlighting the transformative power of art in supporting mental well-being.
