AU and Tsinghua SIGS Forge Strategic Partnership for Global Talent Development

Shenzhen, May 20, 2024 — In the heart of Shenzhen’s innovation corridor, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) and Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS) took a meaningful step toward deepening academic collaboration. The AU delegation, led by Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of AU, engaged in high-level talks with SIGS leadership on talent development, graduate research cooperation, and educational innovation in the Belt and Road era.

The symposium, hosted by Professor Zuo Jian’e, Vice Dean of Tsinghua SIGS, served as a platform for both institutions to exchange visions for long-term cooperation, emphasizing mutual respect and global ambition.

Rev. Bro. Sirichai highlighted SIGS’s achievements in technological innovation and international collaboration, proposing the establishment of a China-Thailand joint graduate education mechanism to foster student and faculty exchanges, research partnerships, and cross-cultural integration. Professor Zuo expressed strong support, noting SIGS’s strategic role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and its shared commitment to regional innovation and cross-border exchange.

Key outcomes of the dialogue included:

  • Opportunities for outstanding Thai students to study in Shenzhen.
  • Expansion of industrial training programs and joint research initiatives.
  • Exploration of collaborative master’s and doctoral programs, especially in innovation-driven fields.

The AU delegation also toured SIGS’s International Building, gaining first-hand insights into its world-class teaching and research facilities.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Narong Aphiratsakun, Dean of AU’s Vincent Mary School of Engineering, Science and Technology, praised SIGS’s innovation capabilities and suggested joint projects in smart technologies and interactive applications. Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kitti Phothikitti, Vice President of AU, underscored the significance of this collaboration as a model for academic partnerships among Belt and Road countries.

The exchange concluded with the presentation of commemorative gifts and a group photo, symbolizing the beginning of what both parties envision as a long-term, transformative academic partnership.
