Workshop on Treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Using Prolonged Exposure Therapy by Dr. Jon Blaw

On Monday, July 15, 2025, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) hosted a specialized workshop on the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) using Prolonged Exposure Therapy, led by Dr. Jon Blaw. The workshop was held at the Hua Mak Campus, in D Building, Room D41.

Dr. Blaw introduced participants to the foundations of exposure therapy, underlining its proven effectiveness in treating trauma. He clarified the distinctions between trauma and acute stress, highlighting the necessity of proper diagnosis and timely treatment.

The session’s core focus was on Prolonged Exposure Therapy, particularly two major approaches: in vivo exposure—where clients face real-life anxiety-inducing situations—and imaginal exposure—in which clients are guided to revisit and reprocess their traumatic experiences in a safe therapeutic setting.

To monitor progress, Dr. Blaw emphasized the use of the Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS), allowing practitioners to gradually and systematically increase clients’ tolerance levels through step-by-step exposure.

The workshop concluded with case examples demonstrating the positive outcomes of Prolonged Exposure Therapy, reinforcing its effectiveness in supporting trauma recovery. Students and participants highly valued the session for its practical insights and professional relevance, especially in the field of clinical psychology.

This initiative reflects AU’s dedication to advancing student learning and professional development by providing access to internationally recognized expertise.
